Rio Olympics Live @ Garden Square
Rio
2016 Olympic Games are being shown live at Garden Square, henceforth, it is time to take a
page out of The Portuguese fans, and come down to the Square wearing Canadian
colours, and waving the flag, in an effort to cheer on our Canadian athletes as
they pursue their dream of winning a medal after years of hard work in their
quest to compete on the world stage.
Garden Square has been a beacon of activity ever since the Big Screen went up that has brought several rabid fans down to cheer on their team whether it was The Toronto Blue Jays last September through October, or the Raptors back in April & May, and of course let us not forget Euro 2016 where the Portuguese displayed a deep loyalty to their country and soccer team. Huge crowds from various nationalities were crammed into the Square like sardines and turned Garden Square into a fan frenzy spectacle. Flags from every nation in the Euro 2016 were draped along the light poles at Garden Square.
Each game or sport brings it's own excitement to the Square.

Rio 2016 Summer Olympics
It is the place to be, regardless of
weather. On one day during the Raptors run, the day that The Raptors defeated the Miami Heat, it was freezing and it was so cold that The Heat stayed away. But let’s take a page from the Portuguese, and come down to the Square and show loyalty to our Canadian Olympians.
The summer Olympics features Canada’s athletes who are some of the best in the world. In recent Olympics Canada has performed magnificently winning several medals and including gold. Back in the 1970’s Canada would have been lucky to win two or three medals at most.
Like The Portuguese, let's fill Garden Square with The Maple Leaf and cheer proudly for our deserving athletes.
Let’s
all come down to the Square proudly wearing our Canadian shirts, hats, and
decorate Garden Square by proudly waving our flag in earnest and show our
athletes we care as they compete in every competition whether it be rowing,
swimming, gymnastics, track & field, basketball or soccer, plus many other
sports that Canadians will be competing in. We owe it to our athletes who have
sacrificed, and worked extremely hard to get to the Olympics. Many of these
athletes are not rich and while training or competing in various competitions, across
Canada and around the globe, take on full or part time jobs, some attend school
whether it be high school, college, or University and then put in many hours
training, with most of the fees and tuition coming out of their own pockets.
It all kicked off last Friday August 5 with showing of the Opening Ceremonies to the delight of many in attendance.

Come
on Brampton we can do it, just like the Portuguese but instead of decorating
the Square with red & green, turn the Square into a sea of our Red Maple
Leaf flying proudly while cheering on our Canadians.
The
next two weeks will be a load of fun, please come on down to the Square and
join in all the excitement of sport.
