Making A Child's Christmas

Mountain
Story Written
By Bret Sheppard
What is more
precious, than a young child on Christmas morning opening up that delightful
toy from Santa? The eyes light up bigger
than the moon, and the vivid smile that glows brighter than the Christmas
lights to treasure a moment that lasts a lifetime. Sadly, for many children in Peel Region, that
hope is dashed due to the struggles for several families endeavouring to make
ends meet.
That is where Tom Brown from CTV News Toronto and Weather man and The Salvation Army come in to help alleviate the situation by making a child’s dream come true by building a Toy Mountain.

The goal of Toy
Mountain is that every child should wake up Christmas morning with a new toy
under the tree regardless of their financial circumstances. What is Christmas without the great joy of a
child with a toy?
Toy Mountain is
into its 22nd year, and Tom Brown has been instrumental in spearheading the
cause with CTV for several years, to help children’s wishes at Christmas come
true. People bring unwrapped toys to
help build and fulfill the dreams of children all through the GTA at various
locations.
The goal this year is raise 150,000
toys, and after last night the total so far is 22,540, just into the first week
of the drive. The Toy Mountain Drive ends
December 20th. When this
paper is issued, there is still time to drop of a toy.
On November 28,
2017, Tom Brown, CTV News Toronto brought Toy Mountain to Garden Square in Brampton,
to an enthusiastic, and goodhearted toy givers from Brampton. Along with Neil Leduke from the Salvation
Army, several families, local sports groups, and a host of dignitaries which
included Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath, Canadian Horseracing legend Sandy
Hawley, plus City of Brampton councilors contributed enormously to the spirit
of the event.
The simulcast took
place between 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm during the CTV News Toronto broadcast. Many people attended and Tom Brown mentioned
on air, that a return to Brampton next year is a possibility from the eagerness
Bramptonians displayed throughout the show.
The children choir from St. Mary’s Elementary School in Brampton bearing
toys and providing their festive voices, singing an arrangement of Christmas
favourites.
A cheque from Woodbine cares
was donated with the help from Sandy Hawley, and The Salvation Army provided
hot chocolate to all that attended to warm all the warm-hearted folks who
needed a little liquid refreshment.
The end result
from this evening’s Toy Mountain broadcast, is that there will be many, many more delightful
children will wake up Christmas morning with a gleaming smile a mile wide, to discover
that precious toy waiting for them under the tree, and to know that yes, “Santa Claus came to my house”.
