Portugal Fan Frenzy Thursday Evening in Downtown Brampton

Portugal Fan Frenzy

The game was tight Thursday afternoon as Portugal and Polish fans descended upon Garden Square to take in the Quarter-Final action in Euro2016. With the game tied after regulation time, and after thirty minutes of overtime, the game needed to be decided by the penalty kicks. Cheers or groans were resonating throughout the Square from the Portuguese and Polish fans alike as both teams scored or made saves creating a fever pitch that was ready to explode. And explode they did.
Finally Portugal scored to win the match and sent them to The Semi-Finals, and send Poland packing.

Fan Frenzy

At the moment of victory, the Portuguese fans went ballistic, such as it was last Saturday, fans congregated towards the corner of Main St. & Queen to celebrate in style. And celebrate they did, and the parade of vehicles decked out in Portugal flags, waving flags, honking the horns and turned downtown Brampton into a fan frenzy. The whole episode lasted well over an hour. For the most part it was good clean celebration, the only thing that was concerning was people hanging out their car windows waving their flags, and possibly putting themselves in peril. However, it made the evening but sadly for the Polish contingent they will have to settle for the next Euro Cup.

Portugal will now face the very surprising Wales team in the Semi-Final Match, schedule for Wednesday July 6 at 3:00 pm. Wales upset Belgium 3-1 in their Quarter-Final match on Canada Day.
If you plan on going down to the Square and want a seat, best to get there extra early as for each game leading to the Finals, the crowds at the Square are massive. Best bet bring your own chair.

It will be crazy.
